I just got done coaching some of the women inside Carrying Your Cross Without Losing Yourself and…oh my gosh.

I LOVE this work.

Like, LOVE it.

There is something so incredibly satisfying about watching someone take everything we’ve been learning about emotions, thoughts, nervous-system regulation, needs, acceptance, problem-solving, etc. and then helping her apply it to the actual messy situation happening in her life right now.

Because that’s the part I think we miss sometimes.

You can learn allllll about emotional regulation.

You can understand your thought patterns.

You can save the Instagram posts and listen to the podcasts and highlight half a book. 😂

But then Tuesday afternoon happens.

Something triggers you.

Your mind starts spiraling.

You KNOW you’re activated. You might even know exactly which coping skill you’re “supposed” to use…

…but you’re still sitting there thinking:

Okay. But what do I actually DO with THIS?

Coaching my clients this morning reminded me that this is exactly why I created Carrying Your Cross Without Losing Yourself (CYC) the way I did.

I didn’t want to create another course where I hand you a bunch of really good information and then send you off to figure out how to apply it by yourself.

The bulk of the meaningful work we do to create change and practice acceptance in our lives doesn't happen during a scheduled hour together each week, either.

Because most behavior change doesn’t happen while you’re sitting on a Zoom call talking to me.

It happens when you’re irritated with someone you love.

When you catch yourself heading toward the same spiral you’ve been in 100 times before.

When you’re trying to figure out whether you need to accept something, change something, set a boundary, challenge a thought, calm your body…or maybe just go eat lunch because you haven’t eaten in six hours. 😅

The real work happens in your actual life.

And that’s why CYC is built around this flow of:

Learn something → practice it → notice where you get stuck → get individualized feedback → try again → bring the deeper stuff into coaching → practice again.

Over and over.

Not because there's something wrong with you when you need help applying something.

But because that IS the process of learning a new way of responding to your life.

We all need on outside, objective observer trained to help us see what to do next sometimes!

Lately, I’ve been seeing these little moments with my clients that make me want to scream "YESSS!" from the rooftops because they might look tiny from the outside…but they’re totally not.

These moments look like:

Noticing the urge to react before actually reacting.

Realizing, “Wait…calming my body helped, but this thought is still here. Maybe I need to work with both.”

Slowing down an emotional reaction enough to uncover what was actually underneath it. (Hint: 99% of the time, it's not just overwhelm.)

Recognizing a pattern that used to happen automatically.

Those are the moments I will highlight and celebrate with you!

Because we’re not trying to create a life where nothing ever activates you, hurts you, overwhelms you, or asks something difficult of you. That's not what God wants, either, by the way. He gave us emotions for a reason.

We’re learning how to meet those moments differently.

And I think I’m realizing all over again that this is the kind of work I was born to do. It truly changes the trajectory of people's lives!

And creates ripples in so many more! (Want a testimony to this? I have one I can send you!)

So…since you can see I'm all fired up and absolutely thanking the Holy Spirit for the work He is doing in the lives of my clients, you’ll probably be hearing me talk about CYC a little more around here. 😉

If you’ve been thinking, “Samantha, I understand so much of this stuff you talk about intellectually. I just can’t seem to actually DO it when I’m in the middle of my own hard stuff…”

That is exactly the gap CYC was designed to help bridge.

If you want to know more about joining us, just hit reply and tell me CYC.

I’ll send you the details and we can figure out together whether it’s actually the right kind of support for you.

Blessings,

Samantha Stefaniak, LMHC

Supporting Catholic women emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Week 3 Advent Reflection: Joy That Doesn’t Depend on Circumstances As we enter the third week of Advent through Gaudete Sunday, we’re invited to meditate on joy. Not the fleeting emotion of happiness… but the deeper, steadier, God-rooted joy that can coexist with exhaustion, disappointment, or even pain and suffering. This is the kind of joy the Church means when she calls it a Fruit of the Spirit. A Fruit of the Spirit is...
